Photodiodes are semiconductor devices used for converting light into an electrical current. Photodiodes are constructed like regular semiconductor diodes, but without the opaque coating that is normally used on signal and rectifier diodes. The current is generated when photons are absorbed in the photodiode. Photodiode usually comprises of optical filters, lenses and surface areas.
